Development of Emoji Blitz began in March 2015. I oversaw all aspects of art and animation, as well as contributing to game design and marketing. I led a small team that developed the style and esthetic of Disney Emoji, in the hopes of turning it into a company wide brand.

Emoji Blitz is set in the fictional, non-IP specific world of “The Cloud”. The Cloud served as a jumping off point for UI direction, backgrounds and power-ups. Round edges and bright colors blend the Disney IPs together in a fast-paced world perfect for casual games.

Taking inspiration from iOS emoji, we paired familiar expressions with Disney personality.

Mixing any of Disney and Pixar’s brands into one style is huge undertaking. I collaborated and met with multiple groups and franchise holders, to understand their needs and concerns. I proposed strong silhouettes and bright colors for recognition, while having standard expressions for consistency.

Providing clear and concise feedback helps to maintain Emoji brand standards, especially when multiple teams are working to create new content and characters.

Emoji Blitz has exceeded my expectations as it continues to grow into other avenues. As a brand, Disney Emoji supports multiple products for the company which include Emoji Blitz, As Told By Emoji and physical product. Above are few examples of merchandise that is available now.

As Told by Emoji

The Direct-To-Conusmers team leveraged the emoji designs, and created reimagined versions of classic Disney animated films. I helped by providing the necessary emoji and props, and providing feedback on newly created assets. You can find more on YouTube or on Disney+.
